Mario Matthew Botha Ferreira (b. South Africa) is an artist working from Atelier Matt of Matt in the Netherlands. His move north was more than a change of address; it was a reorientation of memory. Far from family and the landscapes that shaped him, Mario turned longing into material. He collects small domestic traces—photographs, letters, scraps of paper—and weaves them into paintings and mixed‑media works that hold the tension between absence and presence. Layers of color, scraped surfaces, and stitched paper become a language for homesickness: not a single image of home, but the feeling of home arriving in fragments and returning in brushstrokes. His work speaks to migration, intimacy, and the quiet ways we carry family across distance.
